Creativity knows no limits. Drawn from this ethos, "Beyond The Canvas” transcends boundaries in a unique showcase of six local artists’ talents and visions. The Perfect Bound Customised Notebook isn’t merely a product, but a tribute to the individual artist’s creative flair and personal expression. Each notebook becomes a canvas on which their works come to life, offering a window into the imaginative worlds of these remarkable creators.

In our conversation with Andy Yang, he shared the inspirations that shape his work as a multi-disciplinary artist, focusing on music and visual arts, especially painting. For Andy, art is a lifelong pursuit that enables him to express himself through abstract subjects and forge deeper connections with others. Explore his journey and the piece “The Ties That Bynd Us All,” which symbolises the bonds of family, friendship, and shared experiences for Bynd Artisan’s "Beyond the Canvas" collection.

Hi Andy. Thank you for taking the time to speak with us and being part of the “Beyond The Canvas” artist showcase. For readers who are not yet familiar with you and your work, could you give us a short self-introduction?
Hi, my name is Andy Yang. I am a multi-disciplinary artist. My work explores both music and the visual arts with a primary focus on painting—many of my creations are paintings and drawings. My favourite subjects are usually abstract — through painting them, I find I can express myself really well.

How does art resonate with you on a personal level?
I realised early on that art is truly what I want to do. So, I pursued it, and I've been lucky enough that every job I've had since has been related the creative field. Eventually, I found myself returning to fine arts and started painting again—something I know I’ll never have to retire from. I’m glad to be doing what I love.

What inspired you to pursue art in this field, and what insights have you gained about yourself along the way?
I believe that art is a lifelong pursuit. I am blessed to have the support of my family to pursue this as a career. I’ve also been lucky to have friends and people who have come into my life, bringing positive energy, and we’ve grown together along the way.

Can you tell us about the piece you created for Bynd Artisan’s “10 Years and Beyond” and what it means?
The piece I created for Bynd Artisan’s 10th Anniversary is titled “The Ties That Bynd Us All”. This piece uses intricate brush works and collage technique to symbolise the myriad of ways people are linked—by family, friendship, love, and shared experiences. I wanted to reflect on Bynd Artisan being a tight-knit unit — like a family. I played on something really simple: The ties, the relationships between everyone in the company. It’s like you’re working, but it doesn’t really feel like work. You have a shared goal that you achieve together, making it feel almost like a family dream. That’s why I chose the title “The Ties That Bynd Us All," playing with the word "Bynd" to commemorate this special anniversary.

In what ways do you hope your artworks, particularly the “10 Years and Beyond” piece, will resonate with those who encounter them?
The title of this piece explains it well. It invites viewers to reflect on the importance of nurturing and honouring these bonds, recognising them as the fundamental fabric of human life. I kept it simple and heartfelt. I hope the audience will connect with it because I believe that when you’re genuine in what you express, it will touch someone, somewhere. It’s like being honest with someone — such honesty will resonate and return to you in some way.
