Hi Lavender. Thank you for taking the time to speak with us and being part of the “Beyond The Canvas” artist showcase. For readers who are not yet familiar with you and your work, could you give us a short self-introduction?
My name is Lavender Chang, and I am a visual artist specialising in photography and film. My practice is very time-based and process-driven. I love how my artwork captures the passage of time in a single image, revealing dimensions that we cannot perceive with our bare eyes.

How does art resonate with you on a personal level?
I enjoy the process of turning the intangible into the tangible. The results always surprise me and inspire me to go further.

What inspired you to pursue art in this field, and what insights have you gained about yourself along the way?
The curiosity of the mundane elements in our every day life inspired me to pursue art. I am still exploring what connects me to this world while creating something that resonates deeply with my heart.

Can you tell us about the piece you created for Bynd Artisan’s “10 Years and Beyond” and what it means?
The title of this piece is “Whispers of Luminosity.” “Whispers of Luminosity” uses a technique called “light painting” to show the workshop space in Bynd Artisan’s Holland Village Atelier in a different light. Created entirely in darkness on 9 May 2024, the piece reflects the passage of time by capturing the movement of light through long exposure.

Each light painting depicts a unique moment that casts its distinct characteristics onto the final composition — the perfect metaphor for the Bynd Artisan experience, where every gift, every customisation and personalisation is meaningful in different ways to each person.

In what ways do you hope your artworks, particularly the “10 Years and Beyond” piece, will resonate with those who encounter them?
I hope that my work will spark a conversation, evoke reflection, and create memories. When the audience shares their thoughts with me, a small piece of them becomes a part of me as well.
