Inspirational Journal — A Conversation with Beatrice Tan
This week, we launched our Inspirational Journal together with our collaborator, The Hidden Good. In the spirit of spreading good energy, we invited five women who inspire us — Bertilla Wong (co-founder, The Closet Lover), Beatrice Tan (founder, Klarra),
Aarika Lee (marketing director of Elementary Co and musician), Krystal Tan (director, Blue Sky Escapes) and The Hidden Good’s board of director Wu Jiezhen — to give us a little glimpse into their inner garden: What inspires them? Which of the five words — Joy, Still, Light, Vision or Bloom — do they feel a special connection with at this moment? How are they overcoming the challenges that have come with 2020? And more. Kicking things off, here’s our conversation with Beatrice.

To have vision is to have a clear sense of purpose
Founder of Klarra
What inspires you to do what you do?
Beatrice Tan: The customers and the team at KLARRA inspire me. At KLARRA, we aim to bring value to our customers through fashion and lifestyle products. All our products are designed and created in-house, and we place great emphasis on the quality, mileage and experience. We believe these products will empower and inspire individuals and at the same time enhance the quality of life for them.
Which word — Joy, Light, Still, Vision, Bloom — resonates most with you? What does it mean to you?
BT: Vision. In my opinion, to have vision is to have a clear sense of purpose. It’s a deep dive into our thoughts, values, passions in order to understand ourselves and how we would like to live our lives and run our businesses meaningfully. With vision, we can think of the bigger picture, it keeps us rooted and offers us clarity of the direction we wish to take to achieve our dreams.
How has Covid-19 impacted you, and how did you overcome it?
BT: Covid-19 has no doubt challenged us in many ways, especially in business. It has disrupted plans, but at the same time, I see it as a blessing in disguise as it has allowed us to pause, take a step back to re-evaluate our personal/business goals, and it has given us time to work on those new — and better — goals. I took this time to reflect and re-plan, and I’m excited for what lies ahead for KLARRA.
Share with us an inspirational quote you live by.
BT: “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.” — Vivian Greene
Who would you gift the journal(s) to, and why?
BT: It would be difficult to pick someone, but I’d really like to gift these journals to budding entrepreneurs or friends who need some encouragement especially in these challenging times.
